Eiger Ambassador Express

Eiger Ambassador Express

The history of this cogwheel locomotive (type He 2/2) is closely linked to the development of the Jungfrau region and the conquest of the Eiger North Face. Built in 1913 as the eleventh example of this type, it first made its debut at the Swiss National Exhibition in 1914. Its maiden voyage followed in 1915. It served as a rescue vehicle during the tragically failed attempt to climb the Eiger North Face in 1936. It also played a key role in the 2008 film "Nordwand," which recounts the tragedy. Most recently, the locomotive operated as part of the nostalgic train "Eiger Ambassador Express to the Jungfraujoch - Top of Europe." Today, it offers visitors to the Top of Europe flagship store the opportunity to experience the experience of traveling in the pioneering days of Alpine tourism.
